Midas Safety Launches Industry-First Chemical-Resistant Liner Solution

Midas Safety has launched a new liner technology for chemical gauntlets, providing high levels of protection against a wide range of chemicals while offering unprecedented end-user fit and comfort.

The Filapro Chem Nitrile gauntlet features a polyester non-woven liner that is considerably thinner than traditional cotton liners, making it exceptionally lightweight and flexible. It provides workers with exceptional comfort over extended periods of wear in sectors such as chemicals, automotive, life science, and machinery and equipment.

The gauntlet also offers a significantly lower carbon footprint than existing solutions, with 16 percent lower ”cradle-to-grave” COemissions than knitted cotton-lined alternatives and less intensive use of natural resources.

The Cat III, EN374-1:2016 Type A certified gauntlet comes with the backing of strong chemical permeation datasets, allowing companies to select the right gauntlet for their specific chemical environment and reduce the number of gauntlet types they need to keep in stock. More informed purchasing simplifies inventory management and reduces overall costs.

The gauntlet comes in two surface textures—crumb and wave—to provide a secure grip in a broad range of wet, dry, and oily conditions. Both finishes performed well in wear trials as well as in laboratory-based abrasion and grip tests.

It is crucial that gauntlets do not cause health problems for workers in industries where they must be worn regularly and for long periods. Therefore, the Dermatest-certified Filapro Chem is designed not to cause skin irritation, allergies, or other dermatological problems.

Midas Safety is bringing the Filapro Chem gauntlet to market following extensive wear trials with chemical and manufacturing customers in the UK and Germany. The trials have delivered positive feedback, with end users commending the fit, comfort, grip, and protection. The gauntlets were also shown to provide superior grip and handling under different conditions.
