Safety Programs Deploying Exosuits Showcase Employee Well-being Improvements

New field data shows sharp decreases in worker fatigue, discomfort, and turnover

HeroWear, an occupational exosuit provider, announced new data from URM Foodservice, a premium grocery chain, and two customers from Amerisure Insurance, indicating a significant reduction in worker turnover, fatigue, and discomfort after deploying HeroWear’s Apex 2 exosuit. Designed for those who carry the weight of the industry, HeroWear’s exosuit provides workers with added support on and off the job. The Apex 2’s elastic bands function like an extra set of back muscles, reducing back strain for workers while improving quality of life.

After exosuit deployment:

  • Amerisure Insurance client Auto-Wares reported a 40.74 percent decrease in worker fatigue from heavy lifts and a 26.92 percent reduction in lower back discomfort;
  • Amerisure Insurance client Beverage South workers experienced a 42.19 percent decrease in fatigue from heavy lifts alongside a 32.84 percent reduction in lower back discomfort;
  • URM Foodservice saw reported back injuries drop to zero among the teams using exosuits. They also reported having more energy at the end of the day and less work-related discomfort; and
  • As a part of an overall worker-focused initiative lasting more than a year, nearly 100 distribution center workers at a premium grocery chain used the Apex 2 exosuits and reported zero back injuries. The workers also reported an average of 42 percent reduction in work-related lower back discomfort and a 26 percent reduction in work-related fatigue.

Exosuits aid workers in repetitive lifting and bending motions, preventing back strain. Workers in the warehouse distribution industry experience the highest rates of serious injury, which can impact their quality of life due to injury or fatigue. The average cost to recruit and train new warehouse workers is $18,600, creating a reduction in turnover beneficial for companies while improving the quality of life for workers.
