Forklift Anti-Collision System Wins Innovation Award
ELOKON, a global leader in industrial safety technology, has received the U.S. Material Handling Institute’s Innovation Award for “Best Innovation of an Existing Product:” the ELOshield™ forklift anti-collision system. ELOshield was one of just three products awarded out of more than 110 nominations.
The MHI Innovation Award highlights the latest advances in supply chain technology, focusing on solutions that deliver “quantifiable and sustainable results in terms of ROI, cost savings and customer satisfaction.”
ELOKON demonstrated ELOshield to a panel of five independent judges at the MODEX material handling trade show in Atlanta, Ga., on April 9. The award was announced at an industry gala on April 11.
ELOshield is an ultra-wideband warning system that helps prevent industrial truck accidents, improving safety for both equipment and workers in material handling operations. A fixed site version monitors accident-prone areas, such as high-traffic aisle intersections. A mobile version monitors zones of up to 50 feet around moving vehicles.
The system is able to customize object-detection zones around mobile equipment. Zones can be programmed by vehicle as circles, symmetrical rectangles or asymmetrical polygons. Two different proximity zones, representing “warning” and “danger” risk levels, can trigger different system reactions.
When an industrial truck gets too close to a floor worker or another vehicle, ELOshield warns both the pedestrian and the driver with a combination of audible, visual and vibration alerts. The system also automatically slows the truck down to “creep speed” and, if desired, stops the truck.
ELOKON GmbH, based in Germany, is a global leader in lift truck safety technology. The company made its U.S. debut at MODEX, demonstrating its products on the show floor and delivering an educational seminar entitled “Applying Innovations in Advanced Driver Assistance-Systems to Material Handling.”
