Schmalz at the Modex trade show: a focus on efficient vacuum generation

Efficient vacuum generation is growing ever more important, especially in automated handling processes. With that in mind, Schmalz is fitting more and more of its vacuum generators with energy-efficient eco-nozzle technology. At Modex 2016 (April 4 to 7), the company will be showcasing ejectors for a multitude of applications and industries. Its high-performance vacuum gripping systems, manual handling solutions and vacuum clamping systems will also be on display at booth 2662.

Conservation of valuable resources is becoming more and more important in the handling of workpieces with vacuum power. Users ask for vacuum gripping systems that not only are quick and powerful but also consume as little energy as possible. The vacuum specialist is placing its focus on energy-efficient products with that in mind. Schmalz has, for instance, developed its eco-nozzle technology, bringing a whole range of new benefits: Vacuum generators equipped with this technology are extremely efficient thanks to the multi-stage Venturi principle and have a 15% higher suction rate in comparison to conventional solutions. They consume 15% less compressed air and make the required vacuum power available around 10% quicker.

The eco-nozzle technology performs impressively with compact ejectors from the SCPS/SCPSi series, which are used in highly dynamic handling processes in the packaging industry and elsewhere. The latest and most powerful member of our ejector family with eco-nozzle technology is the SBPL basic ejector. It deploys its power effectively and forcefully – and precisely when you need it. In operating ranges between -200 and – 600 mbar, the suction rate is up to 100% higher than its predecessor. This makes evacuation times shorter and accelerates cycles as a result. The Schmalz portfolio also includes the energy-efficient ecoPump SEP ejector module. The module is ideal for decentralized vacuum generation and can be fitted directly on the suction pad. Its benefits include minimum line losses and extremely short cycle times.

As well as energy efficiency, intelligent products and systems are the core focus of vacuum automation at present. At Modex, Schmalz is set to showcase the VSi vacuum and pressure switch with NFC (Near Field Communication). It supplies important process data to smartphones and tablets with speed and reliability.

This enables predictive maintenance, for instance, preventing damage before it leads to high-cost repairs. Schmalz also offers complete vacuum gripping systems for efficient process automation in a multitude of sectors. One of the systems to be showcased at Modex in Atlanta is the SPZ-M layer gripping system, a rational palletizing and de-palletizing system for whole product layers. The system is especially effective for handling cardboard boxes and layers of glass and cans. A mechanical gripping support lets the system pick up unstable and porous product layers such as cardboard and drink packs securely.

The Schmalz exhibit will also include the JumboFlex Battery vacuum tube lifter, a manual handling solution for the ergonomic handling of starter batteries. It is typically used in the commissioning of batteries for system suppliers, the supply of materials in an exact sequence at OEMs and by distributors in the spare parts sector.

Schmalz vacuum clamping systems feature short set-up times and enable the efficient all-round machining of workpieces. A variety of clamping solutions for new CNC machining centers and retrofitting on existing machines are set to round off our appearance at the trade show.
