ASSP’s Flagship Journal Selects Year’s Best Articles

The flagship journal of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has announced its article-of-the-year winners for 2024. Professional Safety honored seven experts from the environmental health and safety (EHS) profession who produced exceptional content for the monthly journal that has been an industry leader for nearly 70 years.

Albert Weaver III, Jessica Kemp, William Ojiambo and Anna Simmons earned first place for their article “From Hard Hats to Helmets: The History and Future of Head Protection” that was published in August.

Second place was awarded to Matthew R. Hallowell and Carren Spencer for contributing “Safety Classification and Learning Model: Defining and Classifying Potential Serious Injuries and Fatalities.” Their article was published in the February 2024 edition.

Fred Straub captured third place for his article “Risk Appetites at Polar Opposites: The Unacceptable Risk” that was published in November.

Professional Safety offers trusted research, practical guidance and evidence-based solutions to help EHS professionals identify hazards, protect workers and educate management that investing in safety is a sound business strategy. The award-winning journal, first published in 1956, is read by more than 35,000 safety professionals around the world who receive it as an ASSP member benefit.

ASSP’s Editorial Review Board encourages technical submissions to Professional Safety, which publishes peer-reviewed articles and a wealth of other useful safety and health information and advice to help reduce injuries, illnesses and fatalities on the job.
