LEARNING
Pre-Conference Courses: Those attendees who opt to arrive early can take advantage of a host of pre-conference course offerings designed to further their career development and, in some cases, help them work towards earning an ASSP Certificate. These courses will be held at the Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. They include CHST, CSP and ASP Exam Prep for beginner and intermediate level learners; Safety Management and Corporate Safety Management; Integrating Z10 to Manage Occupational Health & Safety; Integrating ISO 45001 to Manage Occupational Health & Safety; Advanced Safety Management Methods; Influential Leadership Skills; Measuring Safety Culture; Safety Influencer: Leadership Skills That Impact Performance; Prevention Through Design and more.
Concurrent Sessions: Hour-long concurrent sessions — considered the heart of the conference — will be presented by safety experts in breakout rooms throughout the convention center. Topics covered range include: Champion for Change: Safety Campaign Success Strategies; The Eight Essential Pillars of Overcoming “No” in Safety Management; Revolutionize Ergonomic Assessments & Training with Artificial Intelligence and Take the Challenge: Expand Prevention Through Design to Eliminate Industrial Hygiene Hazards.
Concurrent sessions are organized by level of experience and by track. Most of them allow for Q&A opportunities and attendee participation.
Flash Sessions are fast-paced, tightly focused courses that impart a lot of information in only 15 minutes. Find the full schedule of flash sessions in the Safety 2024 app.
NETWORKING
Networking opportunities are plentiful at Safety 2024, starting with a guided tour for early birds who pick up their badges on Tuesday, August 6 (from 1-7 p.m. CST). In addition to skipping the lines on Wednesday morning, these attendees will enjoy light refreshments, live music and fun activities — in addition to being shown through the convention center by local ASSP volunteer leaders and staff.
A Mile-High Mixer on Wednesday from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM CST in the convention center’s Bluebird Ballroom will feature beverages, appetizers and live entertainment. Proceeds from the $25 tickets will support the ASSP Foundation Career Development Grant Program, which provides funding to OSH professionals and students to support their professional development costs.
Lunchtime Meetups of ASSP communities are great ways to share ideas and compare experiences with people in your interest group or practice specialty. Look for a designated table, and enjoy eating lunch with your fellow safety professionals.
Key Issue Collaboration Sessions (KICS) are roundtable discussions on a variety of topics for people of all levels of experience. You can expect actionable insights and fresh new perspectives from KICS.
FUN EXTRAS
Attendees can win prizes just by visiting the booths of exhibitors who are listed on the game cards they’ll receive. All they have to do is get their card stamped at each participating booth, and then drop the completed card at the designated booth on the expo floor.
ASSP Wise (Women in Safety Excellence) will be presenting a Safety Apparel and PPE Fashion Show.
A Headshot Lounge will be located in the new Career Advancement Center on the expo floor. Two photographers will be available to take new, professional headshots that will help people elevate their business and social media profiles. Instructions for downloading your digital photos will be provided at the booth.
DENVER ATTRACTIONS
There’s a surfeit of art in Denver, but you won’t have to go far to see an arresting sculpture: a 40-foot- tall blue bear who lives at the Colorado Convention Center. Entitled, “I See What You Mean,” the sculpture was created by Colorado-based artist Lawrence Argent. Step outside and start walking, and you’re likely to see works by Denver street artists. They’ve painted murals on city’s alleyways, building exteriors, warehouses, garage doors and storefronts.
For art in a more formal setting, check out the Denver Art Museum, with displays of Asian art, Indigenous arts of North America, Northwest Coast and Alaska Native, European and American art before 1900, Latin American and art of the ancient Americas, photography, textile art and fashion, and Western American art collections.
Learn about Colorado history at the aptly named History Colorado Center, the Colorado Railroad Museum and the Buffalo Bill Museum & Grave. Whether you’re interested in the state’s fabled events of the past, vintage railroads (housed in an 1880s-style depot), or the life and legend of famed Pony Express rider and showman, you’ll find lots to enjoy at these museums.
Larimer Square has Victorian buildings, specialty boutiques and chef-driven restaurants. The Lower Downtown (LoDo) Historic District is filled with turn-of-the-century warehouses, now home to brewpubs, sports bars, restaurants and rooftop cafes.
Fun fact: the gray and pink pathway in downtown Denver was designed by architect I.M. Pei to resemble the pattern of a diamondback rattlesnake. WMHS
