ASSP’s Flagship Journal Selects Year’s Best Articles

The flagship journal of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has announced its article-of-the-year winners for 2023. Professional Safety honored seven experts from the occupational safety and health profession who produced exceptional content for the monthly peer-reviewed journal that has been an industry leader for nearly 70 years.

Lori Schroth, Eric St. Pierre and Brandon Hody earned first place for their article “Are My Workers Competent in EHS? Competency-Based Training to Improve Learning” that was published in December.

Second place was awarded to Bruce Lyon and Georgi Popov for contributing “Prevention Through Ergonomics: Integrating Human Factors Into a Prevention Through Design Approach.” Their article was published last June.

A tie for third place involved safety experts E. Scott Geller and Matt Law. Geller wrote “Emotional Intelligence: A Crucial Human Dynamic for OSH” that was published in December, while Law authored “Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication: Six Principles for OSH Professionals” that appeared in last year’s May edition.

Professional Safety offers trusted research, practical guidance and evidence-based solutions to help occupational safety and health professionals identify hazards, protect workers and educate management that investing in safety is a sound business strategy. The award-winning journal, first published in 1956, is read by more than 35,000 safety professionals around the world who receive it as an ASSP member benefit.

ASSP’s Editorial Review Board encourages technical submissions to Professional Safety, which publishes peer-reviewed articles each month in addition to a wealth of other useful safety and health information and advice to better protect workers. Details on the submission process are available on the ASSP website.
